Due to high expectations and low results, funding for AI research dried up.
Computers were not powerful enough for advanced AI, and progress slowed.
This period is called the "AI Winter".

4. Expert Systems & Revival (1980s)

AI found practical use in Expert Systems—software that mimicked decision-making in fields like medicine and engineering.
Example: MYCIN, a system that diagnosed bacterial infections.
AI regained popularity in industry, but the systems lacked learning ability.

5. Machine Learning Revolution (1990s–2010s)

AI evolved into Machine Learning (ML)—algorithms that improve with data.
Deep Blue (1997) defeated world chess champion Garry Kasparov.
Speech recognition, recommendation engines, and image recognition took off.

6. Modern AI Boom (2012–Present)

In 2012, deep learning models won major competitions in image recognition.
Google, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI began investing heavily.
Innovations include:
Self-driving cars (Tesla, Waymo)
Voice assistants (Alexa, Siri)
AI content generation (ChatGPT, DALL·E, Gemini)
AI in medicine, finance, agriculture, robotics, and more
